Water the most essential part of our lives, without it we cannot survive even for a single day as we are all dependent on it we use water for cleaning, washing, cooking and most important of them all is we use it for drinking, but now we have a serious issue of water scarcity on India if we don’t take the major steps soon there are fewer chances to survive for our future generations.



We know the consequences of water crisis but we people only not taking the initiative to solve this major issue of water shortage. Groundwater is been used almost in everything. All living things need water in order to survive as our bodies could not function without it. We also need water to help us in growing crops, powering equipment, and to keep us comfortable. We, humans, require much more clean water than we are can afford from precipitation and surface water, which is why groundwater is used so frequently and in large scale.


According to the report of the world bank, India is the biggest consumer of groundwater, in India about 25% of the world groundwater is dug out that the 1/4th percent of all over water and we know that about 3% of water is drinkable in the environment.

  • About 60% of people in India are suffering from water scarcity.


  • About 2 lakh people die every year in India due to the drinking of infected water.


  • From the year 2020 which is next year about 21 megacities will face the problem of the water crisis in India(Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and etc..).

  • About 100 million people will come to effect from the next year.

  • Up to the year 2030, 40% of the total population of India will suffer the huge problem of water scarcity.

  • India holds the 120th place in terms of Water index Rankings(infected water) out of 122 countries worldwide.

Now it's our major concern in order to save the water, but first, let take a look at which part of India is mostly affected by the problem of water scarcity, several states in India have been suffering from this problem including the Chennai,gurugram, Bihar and other cities of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Bihar.

But the most important question arises that what is the main causes of the water crisis and how to deal with it.

The Main problems of water scarcity are as follows.
  • Groundwater Depletion.
Causes.

1.Using the submersible pumps causes groundwater depletion due to the frequent pumping of water from the ground.

2. Huge amount Groundwater is used for agriculture as we know India is an agriculture-friendly nation about 70% of people live in villages and they are totally dependent on agriculture which causes water.


3. Natural factors also cause the groundwater depletion: The is late arrival of the monsoon season causes a delay in the process of groundwater recharging.

Effects.




1. We will go deeper in the earth surface if there is groundwater depletion eventually if we cannot find the water in few 100 meters we may dig much deeper in search of water.


2. Large water bodies become shallow due to the groundwater depletion also the marine life will also get affected from this.

3. Saltwater contamination can occur from the groundwater depletion which may cost us more to filter it and use it.


4. Adverse effect on biodiversity can cause harm to the environment and causes an imbalance in marine life.

1. It's our duty to conserve the water for our future generations for that we may to one it to use less water for the luxury purpose such as water used in fountains, use of bathtubs, running water from the tap should be stopped and instead, we can use a bucket or mug of water for bathing and shaving purpose.

2. The methods for the groundwater recharging should be improved more research is to be done in order to recharge the groundwater also the techniques of rainwater harvesting is to be implemented in every house in the city as well as in villages.
           
The government should make strict laws on groundwater depletion also the rainwater harvesting should be made compulsory for every new house is to be built.

3. Alternative sources can be used instead of groundwater like water from pond, lake or river can be used for agriculture purpose also the cleaning of the vehicle and animal-like cow and buffaloes should be stop in rivers.

4. The disposal of chemical waste in water bodies  from the factories should be avoided because it does not only pollute the water but also it affects marine life.
